Bachelor of Science

Students in the Human Centered Design & Engineering Bachelor of Science program learn engineering principles rooted in a broad range of disciplines to investigate the interaction of people with technology and technical development.

Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) students graduate with an engineering degree and a strong foundation in designing user experiences and interfaces, creating information visualizations, conducting user research, designing for the web, and building web technologies. 

Admissions

The process of applying to the Bachelor of Science in Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) depends on a student's entry point to the University of Washington. Curriculum

Once admitted to the program, HCDE undergraduate students complete coursework in engineering fundamentals, experiential learning, HCDE core courses, and major electives. The elective coursework allows students the flexibility to explore topics targeted to their professional and academic goals. 

Peer Advisors

If you are a prospective student and want to learn more about HCDE, you can schedule a prospective BS student appointment with an HCDE peer advisor. Peer advisors can answer questions about applying to the major, class registration, and more. Unlike a full-time advisor, peer advisors can review and offer feedback on personal statements. Peer advisors are also students in the major, so they can answer questions about what it’s like to take HCDE classes and pursue a career with an HCDE degree.

Scholarships & Funding

HCDE students may apply for several scholarships, including both departmental and College of Engineering scholarships. Learn more about HCDE scholarships and funding opportunities.

Student Organizations & Associations

Students in the HCDE degree program participate in student activities such as the HCDE Student Association, Women Engineers Rise (WE Rise), HuskyADAPT, UX @ UW, and many more.
